PB Apothecary is an informational platform that will mostly be sharing information about studies done with mushrooms as medicinal healthcare workers. PB Apothecary supports information as it pertains to mushrooms grown at and sold by Virginia Bison Co. There may be information on this site for mushrooms that are not produced, sold, or otherwise available at Virginia Bison Co., because the intention is not that you purchase from them, but use this information to decide what works for you.
Why did a bison farm start producing mushrooms, you ask? This was because animal manure, feed grain, farm workers, and the knowhow to grow are all necessary for growing mushrooms and also abundantly available at that farm. In addition, as you traverse the world of commercially produced medicinal mushrooms, you will find some interesting quirks. Many of them are grown in China; most of them will have rice as an ingredient on the label; and most of them will be grown from mycelium and not the fruiting body. Locally grown mushroom medicinals that are harvested from the fruiting body have more compound complexity and allow for a pure final product, unlike the commercial mycelium that is grown in rice and results in a large percentage of rice in your capsules or tea.
